X-ble MEX

X-ble Medical EXoskeleton (MEX )is a powered lower-limb medical exoskeleton from Hyundai Motor Group Robotics LAB for gait rehabilitation and mobility assistance. It is designed to help users with impaired walking, including people with lower-limb paralysis, perform movements such as walking, standing, sitting, turning, and stair climbing.

Description

X-ble MEX is a medical wearable robot designed to support lower-limb muscle reconstruction and joint mobility recovery for people who have difficulty walking. The device is worn around the legs and pelvis and is intended for medical and rehabilitation use, with Hyundai describing applications for patients with paralysis and broader rehabilitation use for people unable to walk independently due to conditions such as stroke or disability.

The system uses powered actuation, modular actuator design, mechanism optimization, human-motion analysis, and biomimetic gait control. Hyundai states that X-ble MEX can automatically generate walking trajectories based on thigh and calf length, uses crutch-mounted smart-controller buttons for step commands, and supports multiple operating modes, including sitting, stair climbing, and turning. The X-ble MEX builds on the HMEX, which was introduced at CES 2017.

Exoskeleton Characteristics: biomimetic gait control; adjustable frame sections for user body dimensions; crutch-mounted smart controller; IMU-based posture/center-of-gravity monitoring; emergency stop; electronic brake system that holds joints fixed when power is off; supports walking, standing, sitting, turning, and stair climbing.

Weight of Device: Main unit weight 18 kg (39.7 lb), including battery. Battery pack weight 1.5 kg (3.3 lb). The wireless crutch controller alone is listed at 180 g (6.3 oz); the wireless crutch, including the controller, is listed at 880 g (1.94 lb).

Supplied Power: Li-ion battery pack; 43.2 Vdc; 3900 mAh capacity; listed runtime of 1 hour 30 minutes under test conditions of 85 kg (187 lb) user weight, 0.75 km/h (0.47 mph) walking speed, and continuous walking; listed charge time 2 hours. No output torque value was provided on the product page.

User Limits: Maximum user weight 100 kg (220 lb); user height 160–190 cm (5 ft 3 in–6 ft 3 in).
