ALEx S

ALEx S is a passive upper-limb rehabilitation device designed to support gravity-assisted spatial arm movements. In other words, a fixed-frame system that can be wheeled in place. It uses adjustable gravity compensation and embedded position-sensing technologies to track full-arm movement during therapy.

Description

ALEx S is a passive upper-limb rehabilitation device from Nexum Robotics®, the biomedical division of Wearable Robotics®. The system is designed for passive arm training with gravity support during spatial movements. It uses advanced position-sensing technologies to track full-arm motion and can support rehabilitation for patients with hemiparesis by reducing the arm’s effective weight through gravity compensation.

Unlike powered robotic exoskeletons, ALEx S adjusts the level of arm support through a counterbalancing system. The therapist can modify the gravity-support level by adding or removing physical weights. Nexum describes this as an innovative patented counterbalancing system.

The system is intended for rehabilitation gyms and may also be suitable for community-based rehabilitation and home therapy. It is designed as a plug-and-play device, with USB connectivity for data analysis and virtual-reality rehabilitation experiences. ALEx S can capture kinematic data during therapy sessions, allowing clinicians to monitor patient performance and track progress over time.

Key features:

Gravity-assisted upper-limb training – Supports passive arm rehabilitation using gravity compensation.

Full-arm motion tracking – Uses embedded position-sensing technologies to track upper-limb movement.

Adjustable support level – Gravity support is modified by swapping counterbalancing weights.

VR rehabilitation exercises – Supports interactive virtual-reality exercises.

Therapy monitoring – Captures kinematic data during sessions for performance tracking.
