LIGHT

LIGHT’ is specially designed for repetitive handling and manipulations using the arms. It is meant to reduce the weight on the arms during task performance. This is intended to decrease the stress on the arms, shoulders, and back. The objective of the wearable is to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) of the upper limbs without discomfort and without constraint for the operator.

Description

The LIGHT is a passive, shoulder support exoskeleton by the French company Human Mechanical Technologies (HMT). It is a 100% purely mechanical wearable device. The exoskeleton weighs 2.9kg, and it can provide anywhere from 1kg to 6kg of assistive force. Its primary application would be for occupations that have prolonged or repetitive static tasks requiring the user’s arms to be raised or outstretched.

Unlike most shoulder-support passive exoskeletons, the LIGHT provides support directly to the arms, a little bit past the elbows. This design likely makes the LIGHT exoskeleton better for tool holding and other applications that require offloading not just the shoulders but the elbows as well. HMT also offers a smaller passive exoskeleton, the PLUM’.
