EduExo Lite

The EduExo Lite is a learning and teaching kit (STEM Education kit). It is designed to be equally informative when used by individuals in their homes, classrooms, or labs. This single-motor active elbow exoskeleton has a handbook that includes practical exercises on hardware design, electronics, control theory, biomechanics, and scientific evaluation.

Description

The EduExo Lite is an educational kit containing all the hardware needed to assemble and program a powered elbow exoskeleton. It is the new version and successor of the original EduExo. The box includes a microcontroller, sensors, plastic parts (that act both as frame and casing), textile bindings, a motor, and connecting parts such as cables and screws. Additional tools, such as a screwdriver and a soldering iron, are required. A personal computer is required to program the exoskeleton.

The EduExo Pro can be used for group work, with enough material for participants to focus individually on hardware, electronics, software control, experiments, and game design integration. The EduExo Lite is meant to be adjustable and effectively customized to fit into existing teaching curricula. While the package is advanced, it can also serve as a STEM education tool for Robotics clubs, which often have downtime between robotics events and competitions.

The new handbook is divided into seven chapters with topics on anatomy, mechanics, electronics, control systems, VR, and gaming.

“It was a great experience to witness students engaging with the EduExo Lite during our Biomechatronics course. It added a practical and enjoyable dimension to our curriculum, enriching the learning experience for everyone involved. By sparking interest in such crucial topics, the exoskeleton community stands to benefit greatly.” – Dr. Urs Schneider, Fraunhofer IPA.
