Muscle Suit Exo-Power

Muscle Suit Exo-Power is a pneumatic back support exoskeleton by the Japanese producer Innophys. It relies on compressed air to assist the user. It is intended to help the back when performing repetitive tasks that require leaning forward, lifting, carrying, or working in challenging and uncomfortable positions. In 2024, this is the most powerful suit offered by Innophys.

Description

Muscle Suit Exo-Power is activated using pneumatics or, more specifically, compressed air-driven McKibben actuators. When pressurized, using a hand pump, the actuator expands while simultaneously shrinking in length, generating a pulling force.

This exosuit is meant for farm work, jobs requiring prolonged exposure to awkward poses, nursing, elder car, and heavy loads.

As with most other occupational exoskeletons, the manufacturer is specific that the intent isn’t for workers to lift heavier loads but to work safer.

Specifications:

  • Assists with up to 27 kgf (107.6 Nm) of auxiliary force (assuming a lever arm of unspecified length)
  • 4.3 kg in weight (9.5 lb)
  • Worn like a backpack
  • IP56 water and dustproof
  • Can operate in extreme temperatures -30℃〜50℃ (-22 F to 122 F)

Recommended User Heights:

  • Small: 150cm to 165cm (4’11” to 5’5″)
  • Medium: 160cm to 185cm (5’3″ to 6’1″)
