Bioservo Technologies was listed in the past under BIOS:SSFN Stockholm. Bioservo Technologies AB was previously traded on Nasdaq First North Growth Market under the short name BIOS; the last day of trading was January 11, 2024.
Bioservo Technologies was founded in 2006 in collaboration between researchers at the Royal Institute of Technology and doctors at Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm. Its early SEM Glove, short for Soft Extra Muscle, was on the market by 2013 and became the foundation for later products. Bioservo’s SEM technology uses pressure-sensitive sensors in the glove to detect the user’s grip and detachable small motors to amplify hand power, creating a soft, intention-controlled assistive system.
The company’s industrial track grew out of that same platform. Bioservo licensed six Robo-Glove patents from NASA and GM after the agency and automaker looked for a commercial partner, and Bioservo later launched Ironhand in 2018 as a soft robotic muscle-strengthening system for professional users. In 2020, NASA recognized Robo-Glove and Ironhand with the agency’s Commercial Invention of the Year Award.
As of June 2024, Skelex has acquired the rights to develop and sell Ironhand, including global exclusive distribution rights to the existing product, a license to develop, manufacture, and sell new products based on Bioservo technology, and the Ironhand trademark. Bioservo is fully focused on the life science market and continues to develop and sell Carbonhand. Since then, Carbonhand has been expanding in the United States through Veterans Affairs channels, the VA Federal Supply Schedule, and a collaboration with Limb Lab.
