Description
The DNSYS Z1 is a consumer/outdoor powered lower-limb exoskeleton focused on knee assistance rather than hip assistance. It is intended for users seeking additional support during walking, climbing, descending, standing from a chair, cycling, skiing, squatting, and other daily or recreational movements. The system uses motors at the knee joint with a transmission design that applies force through padded thigh and calf supports, aiming to offload the knee while improving stability and ease of movement.
In 2026, the Z1 product family by DNSYS includes: Z1 Dual Joint, Z1 Dual Joint Pro, Z1 DualJoint+X1 Carbon, Z1 SingleJoint Left Leg+X1 Carbon, and Z1 SingleJoint Right Leg+X1 Carbon.
The Z1 can also be paired with the DNSYS X1 Carbon hip exoskeleton in bundle configurations, with DNSYS describing the Z1+X1 combination as hip-to-calf support.
Manufacturer-listed specifications include 900 W (1.2 hp) peak power, 4 h runtime for the Dual Joint configuration, 8 h runtime with two batteries for the Dual Joint Pro, and fit limits of 150–196 cm (59.1–77.0 in) height and 40–122 kg (88–270 lb) body mass. DNSYS also describes the Z1 system as having a mechanical weight of 1.6 kg (3.5 lb).
