EXO-004

The EXO-004 is a tethered high-torque hip exoskeleton with high torque output. It is meant to operate with the Caplex emulator.

Description

The Caplex EXO-004 by Humotech is a high-power hip exoskeleton actuated using a cable drive system from a separate power and control system. It is a research device that allows researchers and producers to quickly cycle through hip wearable robot designs and ideas without building one prototype after the next. Two Bowden cables per joint allow each hip to be moved bidirectionally in flexion and extension. An additional passive abduction/adduction is achieved using a passive mechanical linkage.

The package includes an integrated force sensor and angle sensor and can deliver up to 50 Nm through the cable drive system with a wearable weight of 3.7 kg (8.2 lb). It can be used for walking, running, ascending and descending stairs, sitting, squatting, lunging, and more.

The EXO-004 is based on more than 12 years of walking and running studies and is compatible with the same company’s full-sized and portable Caplex System.
