Webinar Highlight: Digital Exonomics: Musculoskeletal Exoskeleton Assessment with AnyBody

Digital Exoskeleton Assessment

What happens when you combine the AnyBody CAD human muscle simulator engine with the ExoWorkAthlon exoskeleton trial course parcours? In this webinar, the presenters outline the risk of physical (musculoskeletal) injuries to workers and explain that statistics don’t show the problem going away. Exoskeletons may be a solution, but they will never be the only solution. The AnyBody human body simulator has been applied to exoskeleton design and evaluation for decades. ExoWorkAthlon is a leading physical assessment that looks at work tasks with and without exoskeletons as product families. There are already evaluation assessments for occupational exoskeletons, and this study validates that digital modeling can be added to them to get a deeper understanding of stresses and shear forces on the human body.

The webinar is led by:

  • Urban Daub, senior expert and business segment manager, medical technology and ergonomics at Fraunhofer IPA, Stuttgart
  • Mark Tröster, research team lead, digital human modeling and ergonomics, Fraunhofer IPA, and University of Stuttgart

Time Stamps:

  • (00:00) Introduction to the AnyBody Modeling System
  • (04:10) Introduction to Fraunhofer IPA & University of Stuttgart, IFF
  • (07:14) Musculoskeletal disorders in heavy physical work
  • (08:14) Methodological background
  • (16:47) Exoworkathlon
  • (20:15) Application of Digital Human Models
  • (35:41) Wrap up: Digital ergonomic tools
  • (37:45) AnyBody online resources

About ExoWorkAthlon:

ExoWorkathlon® is a set of work-related tasks (called Parcours) to test the use of industrial exoskeletons. The goal is not to determine the advantages and disadvantages of a particular exoskeleton but to maintain market neutrality and understand whether a particular type of exoskeleton can be helpful in industry. In particular, ExoWorkathlon® is a very large study collecting data on families of exoskeletons (120+ participants). Link to the ExoWorkAthlon website.

About AnyBody Technology:

AnyBody Technology has been very active in integrating computer-aided design (CAD) models with exoskeletons or other wearable devices. The software models the internal skeleton, muscles, and reaction forces. The ExR team encountered this software solution back in 2015 (it is often mentioned on our website), and the company has been actively engaged in the exoskeleton industry ever since.
