Founded in 1948 as Norman Stanley (Mechanical Handling), Stanley began as a material-handling equipment company and later expanded into workplace safety, powered stair climbers, wearable technology, and occupational exoskeletons. The company established its Ergonomic Safety Tech division in 2023 to bring wearable safety and exoskeleton-assessment technologies to the UK market.

Stanley’s approach emphasizes implementation rather than simply selling equipment. Its process considers the movement being supported, the working environment, user comfort, budget, and practical constraints such as hazardous areas, battery restrictions, sanitation requirements, and confined spaces. Worker feedback is combined with objective assessment so that an exoskeleton can be matched to the correct application and is less likely to be purchased and then left unused.
