More Information

Astrek Innovations is an Indian wearable-robotics company developing lower-limb rehabilitation technology. Kerala Startup Mission records Astrek Innovations Private Limited as founded in 2018. Its current website identifies a head office in Kannur, Kerala, and a separate innovation hub at Maker Village in Kalamassery, Kochi.

Development history

In 2020, Astrek was a finalist in the WearRAcon Virtual Innovation Challenge, presented by co-founder and CEO Robin Thomas. Exoskeleton Report covered an early wheeled support concept intended to accompany the wearer and assist sit-to-stand movement, though the company has since switched directions.

In December 2021, India’s Press Information Bureau reported that Astrek jointly received fourth prize in the Swadeshi Microprocessor Challenge for a lower-limb exosuit demonstration using the VEGA processor. In April 2024, the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology announced Astrek’s selection for the inaugural Bioconvergence Track of its Innovation Accelerator.

A patent application titled “An exoskeleton to support hind limbs of a user,” with Astrek Innovations Private Limited as assignee, was published as WO2024161429A1 on August 8, 2024. This publication is an application, not evidence of a granted international patent. In October 2025, nasscom published a video profile of the company’s work; it is promotional coverage rather than independent clinical validation.

A NITI Aayog Frontier Tech profile updated July 31, 2026, described a rental-based approach for rehabilitation centers and work toward CDSCO certification at that time. That dated account does not establish current approval. BIRAC also lists Unik Exo as a rehabilitation technology, which likewise is not proof of regulatory clearance. In company announcements surrounding AccessAbilities Expo 2026, Astrek described a UAE relationship with Bridgeway Medical Systems and an Australian memorandum of understanding with ALTDATA.
