More Information

Humotech, formally Human Motion Technologies LLC d/b/a Humotech®, is a Pittsburgh-based wearable robotics and medtech company focused on transforming how wearable machines are developed, tested, customized, and ultimately used by people. The company’s work centers on mobility: helping researchers, clinicians, product developers, and commercial partners explore better ways to assist, augment, rehabilitate, support, and evaluate human movement. Rather than focusing on a single device category, Humotech defines its work broadly around “wearable machines,” including prosthetics, orthotics, exoskeletons, exosuits, wearable robotics, and related systems used for assistance, resistance, rehabilitation, training, augmentation, and support.

At the core of Humotech’s business is the Caplex® platform, a modular hardware, software, and support ecosystem designed to accelerate research and development in prosthetics, orthotics, exoskeletons, and other human mobility technologies. Caplex allows teams to design, test, and evaluate wearable assistance concepts with real users before committing to costly physical prototypes. This “test first, then build” approach is intended to reduce development risk, shorten research timelines, improve repeatability, and help innovators generate evidence about what actually works for the people a device is meant to help.

A complete Caplex® system can include wearable devices, actuator units, transmissions or tethers, control hardware, and software. The system can be configured with Humotech’s own prosthetic and exoskeleton end-effectors, or with customer-designed end-effectors. This makes the platform useful not only for building new devices but also for simulating, comparing, and optimizing the behavior of many different wearable-machine concepts using one adaptable research system.

In 2026, a major clinical focus for Humotech is improving prosthetic foot selection. Through Clinical Caplex®, the company is developing a tool that lets prosthetists and patients trial different prosthetic foot options using one emulation system. Humotech describes the system as enabling rapid foot trials across multiple K2 and K3 prosthetic foot options, sizes, and stiffness categories. During a trial, patients can walk while the clinical team changes the emulated foot characteristics through the Caplex software interface and records experiential data to support patient-specific selection, medical-necessity justification, K-level justification, and reimbursement discussions.
