EXOHEAD

EXOHEAD is an industrial passive exoskeleton designed to support work that involves repetitive or sustained arm elevation above the head. It uses elastomer-based artificial muscles rather than motors or batteries to assist arm movement and static overhead postures, with the stated aim of reducing arm and shoulder fatigue.

Description

EXOHEAD is an overhead-arm support exoskeleton from Cyber Human Systems (a spin-off of Gogoa Mobility Robots). It is designed for workers performing elevated-arm tasks in industrial settings. According to the manufacturer, it complements arm-raising from front to overhead positions and helps maintain static above-head postures while relieving stress on the back, shoulders, and arms.

It is an unpowered (passive) exoskeleton built around variable-deformation elastomers and intelligent textiles that act as artificial muscles. Stated features include adjustable assistance for each arm from 2 to 4.5 kg (4.4 to 9.9 lb), total device weight of 2.5 kg (5.5 lb), easy maintenance, and fit for different sizes.

Application: Industrial overhead work; repetitive elevated-arm tasks; static above-head holding tasks with manufacturer-reported performance figures of up to 60% reduction in effort in the arms and shoulders, depending on the task, and 20% reduction in metabolic consumption/cost.
