In this week’s Exoskeleton Report newsletter, we celebrated the Exoskeletons and Wearable Robotics Podcast reaching 1,000 audio downloads and 1,300 YouTube views. We also highlighted new research on back-support exoskeletons, an interview on Safetytech Accelerator, and upcoming events like WearRAcon Europe 2025. Several open job opportunities, podcasts, DIY projects, and ongoing research in military, medical, and industrial domains showcased the exoskeleton community’s breadth and depth of innovation.

Exoskeleton Report Newsletter Summary – March 27, 2025

Podcast Milestone: The Exoskeletons and Wearable Robotics Podcast surpassed 1,000 audio downloads and 1,300 video views. Thank you to everyone who tuned in! Listeners are also encouraged to check out Humotech’s “The Excellent Exo Chat” and Trexo Robotics’ podcast.

Research Highlight – Industrial: A novel metric has been developed to quantify neural adaptation in the use of passive back exoskeletons, indicating decreased efficiency in the early stages of use. The findings will be published in Frontiers.

Interview – Safetytech Accelerator: Borislav Marinov (me) was featured on Safetytech Accelerator’s video series, where he discussed the real-world applications of occupational exoskeletons and explored whether the technology is hype or reality.

Lab Study – Intermittent Bending Tasks: New research confirms that exoskeletons can reduce muscle demand and increase endurance when used under the right conditions for intermittent bending tasks.

Ergonomics – Manhole Cover Removal: A study on passive exoskeletons and tool combinations (Jake tool, Lever tool) during manhole cover removal found that ergonomic risks can be significantly reduced. The best results were seen when pairing tools with passive back exoskeletons and considering worker posture and training.

WearRAcon Europe 2025: is scheduled for November 5–6. The newsletter includes a video from A+A explaining the 2023 ExoWorkAthlon and ExoPark for newcomers.

Military Evaluation – Centaur: The Centaur Exoskeleton underwent in-lab evaluation with Zuyd University, Maastricht University, and the Dutch Ministry of Defense. The goal is to assess its ability to reduce physical strain on soldiers.

Education—Project MARCH X: Project MARCH X introduced its 10th exoskeleton design, developed by students at TU Delft. This design continues the project’s mission to create wearable robotic systems for mobility-impaired users.

Technology – Adjustable Powered Exoskeleton: A paper explored the design and function of an adjustable powered exoskeleton that adds y-axis adjustments, improving comfort, usability, and individual fit beyond typical z-axis (left to right) fit customization.

DIY Spotlight – EXO-Ranger: Inventor Santiago Del Solar shared his human-powered exoskeleton, EXO-Ranger, a DIY project showcased during Symposium W25 with a point of view from Peru and Canada.

Podcast Feature – Humotech Season Finale: The final episode of Humotech’s Season 2 podcast featured Dr. Urs Schneider discussing user-centric testing for wearable devices and the importance of the ExoWorkAthlon methodology.
